On September 13, 2000, permission to occupy was granted by HUD and on September 26, 2000, Cabell-Huntington Unity Apartments was dedicated to Mr. Jack R. McComas in a formal ceremony and open house. This Section 811 apartment complex for persons with disabilities contains 24 one-bedroom apartments (6 have special features for the physically disabled) and one-bedroom apartment for the Resident Manager. The cost of this project was 2.1 million dollars. The Tenants Association sponsors dinners, bingo, quilting, and holiday parties. Emergency alarms are installed on all fire doors and security cameras are located throughout the property. A flagpole was constructed by Pipefitters Local 521 with materials donated by Huntington Piping, Inc. Jack McComas organized the building and painting of the concrete form with Local 302 and the digging and setting with Local 543. A dedication ceremony was performed by the Huntington Marine Corp, Detachment 304, on April 22, 2003. A flag was donated by the Stovers family of Lincoln County.
