Eastview Unity Apartments, formerly the Fairmont Hotel, was renovated in 1984 into an 86-unit Section 202 apartment complex for the elderly and disabled, with over 6,400 square feet of commercial space and a beautiful ballroom for social and civic functions. HUD provides rent subsidy. Renovations were completed at a cost of 3.9 million dollars. Eastview provides a variety of services to residents, such as bus trips to grocery stores, malls, fairs, and other special events, bingo three nights a week, monthly birthday dinners, and holiday dinners.
During 2003, automatic doors were installed at the entrance, carpet was replaced on the first floor, new pictures were hung in the hallways, and six apartments were painted and carpeted. A monthly breakfast, birthday dinners, free Thanksgiving Dinner, and a free Christmas Dinner with gifts and a party are provided for tenants. The following improvements have been made to the grounds, which has created a more pleasing appearance. Shrubs were removed and replaced with flowers and a white stone garden, the fence around the parking lot was painted, and the parking lot has been remarked, painted, and new parking sign indicators were also installed. A new grill and shed to store outdoor equipment was purchased. There were cookouts on the 4th of July, Labor Day, and Memorial Day. A yard sale was held in the lower parking lot.
