In October 2001, HRDE received notification from HUD of a $1,524,500 Section 811 Fund Reservation for the construction of a 19-unit apartment complex for persons with disabilities. This apartment complex is located off High Street in Oak Hill, West Virginia.
This Section 811 housing facility servces the disabled and was completed at a total cost of 2.0 million dollars. In June 2007, the complex began accepting tenants.
This apartment complex contains a multi-purpose room with kitchen, a laundry room, and second floor activity room. Emergency alarms and automatic doors were installed for the security and safety of the tenants. There is a computer with Internet available for tenant use in the second floor activity room and a high speed, wireless network connection for tenants with computers in their apartments. There are several books in the mini library and new magazines are donated every month by the local library. A snack and beverage vending machine has been installed on the property.
Tenant activities include bingo, game night, movies, and a monthly luncheon. There is a once per month delivery of food to the tenants from local churches (food pantry).
