In July, 1988, Gihon Unity Apartments opened its doors to the elderly and disabled in the Parkersburg area. Gihon Unity Apartments is a 50-unit Section 202 apartment complex, with a large multi-purpose room for recreational use. The construction cost was 2.2 million dollars.
In October, 2000, Gihon Unity Apartments was selected as one of the top performing Multifamily Properties in the United States. The housing project has access to a van that is used to transport residents to the grocery store on a weekly basis. A Neighborhood Networks Center is available to residents providing access to computers and other activities.
The tenants at Gihon participate in the Senior Nutrition Program and every Thursday is "County Music Right". Two bus trips are planned each year: One in December to Wheeling for the Festival of Lights; and one in the spring to the Amish Country in Ohio.
