PROGRAM PURPOSE
To provide classroom training to the unemployed and economically disadvantaged adults, youth, TANF recipients, displaced workers, disabled, and minorities of West Virginia in order to facilitate their entry into full-time unsubsidized employment.
Workforce Investment Act legislation strongly emphasizes customer choice and provides Occupational Skill Training through Pell Grants and/or Individual Training Accounts. Program services are offered to qualified customers receiving Individual Training Accounts, as long as they can access HRDE's training facilities. Occupational Skill Training is also provided through Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) funds, as well as other types of buy-ins. HRDE is an approved training provider in all seven Workforce Investment Regions of West Virginia.

Monongalia, Marion, Preston, Harrison, Doddridge, Lewis, Taylor, Barbour, Wood, Wirt, Ritchie, Pleasants, Jackson, Raleigh, Fayette, Roane, Calhoun, Upshur, Nicholas, Wyoming, and Summers Counties.
PROGRAM ACTIVITIES
Occupational Skill Training offers customers an opportunity to be trained in occupational and vocational areas that have proven to be in high demand. Program customers receive training at Stanley Technical Institute at three primary locations:
Clarksburg
Computer Operations & Application Technology
Residential & Industrial Building Technology
Parkersburg
Computer Operations & Application Technology
Hinton
Computer Operations & Application Technology
Classes range from 200 to 720 hours and are approved by the Veterans Administration for Veterans’ benefits and accredited through the North Central Association, Commission on Schools. From July 1, 2002 to June 30, 2003, HRDE enrolled 54 students through Individual Training Accounts approved by Workforce Investment Board Regions I, IV, and VI.
