On September 12, 2000, permission to occupy was granted by HUD for this 36-unit Section 811 apartment complex located on Collins Ferry Road in Morgantown. Unity House Apartments was HRDE's first housing facility specifically for persons with disabilities. The apartment complex contains 35 one-bedroom apartments (13 have special features for the physically disabled), one two-bedroom apartment for the Resident Manager, and a Multi-Purpose Room with kitchen, where activities such as Bingo, Game Night, Tenant Birthday Parties, Craft Classes, and special dinners are held. The Multi-Purpose Room also has an organ that was donated for the tenant's enjoyment by Carolyn Haskell, formerly of Morgantown. A new pool table will soon be featured in the second floor activity room. The complex also has a coin-operated laundromat located on the first floor. The total cost of this project was 3.2 million dollars.
On April 16, 2002, Unity House Apartments was dedicated to Mr. Homer R. Kincaid for his loyalty and dedication to providing safe and affordable housing to many West Virginia residents. Upcoming projects for the building include new park benches in front of the building and a picnic area in back.
