Occupational Exploration
OE opportunities are designed to provide participants an opportunity to acquire a meaningful work activity and develop skills that will enable successful transition into the workplace. OE can occur in the public/private nonprofit sectors, for a range of 160 to 240 hours per occupation. In this work experience, HRDF holds the liability, and also pays the participant! All you have to do, is provide the work! Have a growing pile of shredding at the office? Is the shoe section at your retail shop wildly disorganized? Are you struggling to file everything and answer the phone at the same time? What about rolled silverware at your restaurant- do you run out at dinner? This would be a great way for our youth to contribute to the success of your business, and gain important real life experience. Participants are paid at least minimum wage, and learn about the benefits of a regular paycheck.

On-The-Job Training
OJT is structured to benefit participants, as well as employers during the regular duration of training activities. The employer utilizes training methods, facilities, and resources in shaping the participant into a skilled employee that will be an asset to the organization, business, and/or industry, while being reimbursed for a portion of wages (50%-90%) earned, for the regular training period involved. OJT is a hire-first activity, meaning the participant must be successfully hired by the employer and will be retained upon completion of the contract.

Mock Interviews
Offering your time to participants served can be invaluable. If you possess a skill surrounding employability, our programs can benefit from your wisdom! Offering an afternoon of your time can make all the difference for someone who is working on increasing their confidence in an interview setting. This could also be an opportunity to share with a group of job seekers about what your company is all about, and you could bring applications and screen potential candidates. Offering a critique and feedback to someone who is entering the world of job seeking can give them the advantage out in the field.

Hiring a Youth, Adult, or Dislocated Worker
The programs at HRDF all support increased self-sufficiency and assistance on the pathway to employment retention. The only way to truly learn about work, is to practice. HRDF job seekers range from youth starting their first job, to dislocated workers who may be making a career change due to the economy. It is important for local employers to ‘take a chance’ on a person that is motivated- everyone has to start somewhere! Programs offer various levels of involvement depending on how you would like to involve yourself.
